Dutch to Advise on Geothermal Powered Greenhouse Development (Radio New Zealand)

A Maori-owned geothermal business in Bay of Plenty is contracting one of the world's top universities in the Netherlands to help it expand.

Ngati Tuwharetoa ki Kawerau Geothermal Assets Ltd will bring in the Wageningen Institute to help it build a business-case for a geothermal powered greenhouse development in Kawerau.

Board member Chris Karamea Insley recently travelled around Europe to discuss bringing advanced technology to Aotearoa, to develop Maori assets.

He said the Dutch are world leaders in direct use geothermal technology and the institute, which is the sixth top university in the world, had agreed to help the Maori owned company.

Mr Insley said it planned to contract the institute within the next month to help it towards growing large scale food and flowers using geothermal energy as the heat source.
