The State of California is encouraging development of electrical generation capacity that could be employed at the community scale  (also known as distributed generation). Assessing the magnitude and characteristics of geothermal resources that could be used for such applications is a challenge for many smaller communities since they often lack the technical resource base to conduct such work.
