USA:

2014 DoE (Department of Energy) Geothermal Grants, Loan and Financing Programs (National Law Review)

There are a number of  DOE grants available for research on geothermal systems and building technologies.

The DOE continues to support research being done by companies and think tanks nationwide. Enhanced insight into geothermal systems and solutions is of particular interest this year. The following research and development grants are now open:

1. Geothermal Play Fairway Analysis

  • Concept Paper Submission Deadline:  2/21/2014 11:59 PM ET
  • Full Application Submission Deadline:  4/11/2014 11:59 PM ET

The Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) is seeking applications for projects that address the overarching theme of uncertainty quantification and reduction, specifically through the development of Geothermal Play Fairways. A play fairway analysis defines levels of uncertainty with respect to the presence and utility of geothermal system elements, and translates them into maps to high grade the geographic area over which the most favorable combinations of heat, permeability, and fluid are thought to extend.

2. Integrated Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) Research and Development

  • Concept Paper Submission Deadline:  3/21/2014 5:00 PM ET
  • Full Application Submission Deadline: 4/30/2014 5:00 PM ET

GTO seeks research projects that will facilitate a better understanding of physicochemical conditions to optimize subsurface engineering and stimulation methods, as well as assess and better understand the evolution and sustainability of a reservoir during long-term operations.
