USA, Hawai'i:

Technical Conference Webinar to Discuss Hawaii Geothermal RFP Next Week

The Hawaii Electric Light Co. has unveiled a draft plan to add 50 MWe of geothermal power to the main island's electric grid.

The utility will seek public comment on the draft to help guide renewable energy developers as they prepare their bids to supply geothermal power to HELCO.

The technical conference webinar is confirmed for Wednesday, December 5, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Hawaii Standard Time. Interested parties must register by noon December 4, 2012 to attend. Click on this link to register and follow the directions on the Registration Page.

“This project combines our efforts to increase renewable resources on our island with a commitment to reduce costs for our customers,” HELCO President Jay Ignacio said in a statement. “We look forward to working with developers while ensuring our communities have a voice in energy planning for our island.”

The utility said a final draft of the document will be completed by January, and selection of the winning bidder or bidders is expected to occur next summer.
