Registration is now open for the Geothermal Energy Association’s fourth annual International Geothermal Energy Showcase. The event, to be held on May 23 at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., will be hosted by the Geothermal Energy Association in alliance with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, and the Export-Import Bank of the United States. More than 200 industry leaders, government officials, and other power sector representatives from the United States and abroad are expected to attend.
“The GEA International Geothermal Energy Showcase will bring together government and industry leaders from the fastest growing geothermal markets around the world to highlight their progress and open a dialogue on policies that support success,” said GEA Executive Director Karl Gawell. “While the U.S. is the world leader in geothermal energy today, countries from every continent are making major strides forward in utilizing their geothermal resources. Together, through sharing success stories and policy experiences, the Showcase participants can help each other accelerate geothermal growth.”
The event program will highlight geothermal projects, policies, and development from the world’s key geothermal markets including the Caribbean, Central America, Chile, East Africa, Europe, Indonesia, New Zealand, Peru, and the Philippines. The program will encourage interaction and discussion about government policies, projects in development, market potential, and opportunities for U.S. companies. Attendees will also hear from U.S. Government agencies involved in export assistance for geothermal companies, and from U.S. companies developing projects overseas. Confirmed speakers to date include representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Trade and Development Agency, Export-Import Bank of the United States, U.S. Agency for International Development, Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Electratherm, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, Embassy of Germany, TAS Energy, West Indies Power, Nevis Island Administration, Nevis Electric Company Limited, Empresa Publicas de Medellin, Geothermal Development Company (GDC), the Ministry of Rwanda, and more.
Geothermal power presently supplies the world with 10,715 MW of electricity in 24 countries, on six continents, but the potential to use geothermal resources is even greater. With the technology available today and under development for the future, geothermal resources could supply more than 300,000 MW of power, while producing far fewer carbon emissions than from legacy sources. U.S. companies export geothermal goods and services throughout the world, and with strong support from the administration’s Renewable Energy Export Initiative, the U.S. industry’s position as an international leader will flourish.
